Subject: United States House of Reps will try to censor the internet Wed Nov 16, 2011 3:11 pm
Today, the United States House of Representatives will vote on the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Senate will vote on the Protect IP bill. These bills are too long to explain, but they will shut down any and all sites that have or distribute and copyrighted material, lude/graphic pictures, or anything the government deems unfit for the public (which is almost always everything).
If you live in the US, it means any website based in the US that violates these bills will be shut down FOREVER. Facebook, Twitter, 4chan, and other websites. Any website the government deems unfit for the public that is outside US borders, a governmental firewall will BLOCK any and all access to the site.
If you live outside the US, any US based website will be blocked from ALL outgoing transmissions.
This means even sites like Unforgivsape (Since we are a private server of a copyrighted company JaGeX) will be shut down FOREVER and every single one of us could be tracked down and FINED.
I have posted bulletins in my City hall, talked to my representative, and told him to vote NO on the Protect IP bill. If this bill passes (which it has a VERY good chance to do) it could be the end to the internet as we know it.
Think about your country if you live outside the US. If our bill passes, will your country do the same? The domino effect could censor YOUR internet as well!

#Sarcasm, not sure who can change posts. If I could I assure you I wouldn't have changed the original post. I would just say, "No need for Spam." I've actually matured. As has Luther.

Well, both bills passed, and Thursday at noon they came into effect.
Youtube was taken down for 15 minutes while they wiped out hundreds of accounts for violating copyright acts. So far the big accounts that were taken down (CollegeHumor, JeepersMedia and a few others) are back up for free speech claims, but others are totally gone.
And off-topic, forum moderators can change posts.
Back on topic, all we can do is trust the government will do the right thing and not tear down or hide those who want to speak out.
Looks like I might be moving out of the country earlier than I expected.

Nate, bills can't just pass through the House of Representatives and immediately become law.
There is the Senate after the first stage in which there a two equal sides debating this bill, unlike the house of Representative in which it is unbalanced in sides, it will most likely pass there.
Then comes the executive office (branch) which will fuck this bill in the ass because Obama will go Nyan Nyan Nyan mode.
Nate... perhaps youtube did that as an early precaution? I have no idea why they would do that...
@Kory Just because there is a magical stupid bill appearing doesn't mean im getting involved in politics.. I know how shit works, is there a problem with that? It isn't my fault my dad leaves c-span on and I listen to that for like hours.... and it's not my fault I follow worldly issues.
But yes, this shit will affect my ass so hard if it becomes law.
If this was already law guys... we would be fucked so hard atm, lots of other people would be fucked so hard. Half of the American population would be fucked, that's why this can't pass, they can't monitor all this traffic. That would basically be putting fine's towards half the population = uprising = shit law removed = this wont pass.

Mike, I don't think I could facepalm any harder.
The House passed the Stop Online Piracy Act, and the Senate passed the Protect IP act, both working in conjunction. These acts have been in debate over the last 3 years since the 2009 meeting of legislation, only recently could these have been enacted with Obama at the helm. His sighting of copyrighting (republican) and infringement (also republican) passed both bills into law with 18 hours of a 2/3rds vote for both bills in both houses.
Both bills passed Wednesday, and came into effect Thursday at 10:00am EST
"PROTECT IP Act, which this week unanimously passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. Techdirt notes that this unanimous passage comes despite criticism by librarians, human and digital rights groups (pdf),"
Lots of sources.

Personally i think its not going to happen because if it does it will cause world wide outrage and the world will go in to red zone because there will be riots worldwide because the usa is the most powerfull country in the world and alot of countires use the usa as a source and if the usa choose to do this and shut down websites and things like that alot of people will be charged and then people will come forward and start a rebellion against the new world order this is where war starts and then it could also start off a nuclear war due to "power, wealth, and controll" issues some countires have, if you listen to the news you may of heard about what iran are doing they currently obtain nuclear warheads and alot of countiries are pissed at this because you need permission to keep warheads in the country because of safety issues and good reasons if this happend it would be the most dangerous decision ever made on earth due to the risks that would emerge after the decision.

1, the bill violates constitutional rights. It'll be voted down for the lack of ability to abide by constitutional rights. 2, Everyone knows nigga's not gonna track me down;) So It's all good.

There is actually no constitutional right to the internet. Free speech has been hottly debated when it comes to the internet, however, if you believe in a strict interpretation of the constitution, then "free speech" only applies to vocal words and actions declared by the drafters of the Bill of Rights.
This bill will block websites going out of the US, and websites coming into the US, so "finding" someone isn't what would happen.
If FaceBook has copywright material, it could be shut down from every hosting site in the US, meaning if you live in the UK, you cannot access it because it is hosted in the US. If it is hosted in the UK, and you live in the US, you can't access it because all information coming into the country is blocked.
So, basically it would be the first step into global domination, because of the dependencies of the people and the internet. Even if the US passes it, other countries could be inspired to do the same. Even if it doesn't pass, other countries might be inspired to do the same.
All in all, the only way to resolve a permanent solution is to add a 28th amendment to the US constitution declaring the right for a citizen to travel and/or visit any website he or she consciously desires to view, legal or illegal. (That would be a secondary section to determine legality of a website [ie child pornography, anarchist websites, terrorist websites etc etc]).
Lot of typing, but this bill could fuck everyone in the world up the ass.
